Welcome to Casa cu zorele, in the heart of Transylvania, a few steps from Viscri.

Located in an area of protected nature and biodiversity, Casa cu Zorele (Morning Glory House) is the ideal starting point for exploring the medieval Saxon fortified churches as well as the surrounding areas.

Did you know that species of plants that were once common all over Europe can nowadays be found only in this area?

    The Village of Crit
The guesthouse is located in a very old Transylvanian village, almost forgotten by the outside world, with old houses, many of them over 200 years old.
You shouldn’t be surprised by the unpaved streets (sometimes dusty or muddy), with chickens, cows and horses passing by at their leisure.
However, the village has running water, the sewer system will be soon completed, the streets are well maintained
and the garbage is collected regularly.
The nature around is special, with large woods and lovely hills revealing wonderful landscapes.

    The House
The house was carefully restored while keeping the authenticity of an old Transylvanian house.
Traditional construction materials were used everywhere possible; the elements of the original architecture were also preserved.  As such, modern bricks and tiles were not used.
Some parts of the house, which have been altered in the past 50 years, have been removed, as they were not in line with the original architectural style.
Now everything, from the façade to the interior details, are in line with the typical Transylvanian village from 200 years ago.
In order to maintain the same old feel and to offer you a couple of days away from the hectic world, television sets are not currently available.

    The Guest Rooms
    Each of the four rooms is large and beautifully furnished with solid wood pieces, traditional to the Saxon style;
the rooms are heated with tiled stoves.
You will discover or remember the charm of old walls, covered with old-style paint of lime.
Each room has a private bathroom, equipped with all the modern necessities.

The Dining Room and The Kitchen
The hosts are proud of the original ceiling of the dining room, with its polished beams and wooden panels. Here you will find coolness during the hot summers and, during cold winters, warmth given by the wood stove.

The old kitchen is ideal for preparing homemade meals.
The old wood stove and even the wood oven are still there.

The hosts mostly cook with organic vegetables from their own back yard or locally grown, from lands manured yearly on a un-intensive agriculture process. The milk, cheese, eggs and honey are locally produced as well.
You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the guesthouse’ very own berry marmalade and preserves, cooked at slow wood fire.

    The Yard
The yard was built like a fortress and is surrounded by tiled roofs, which is typical for Saxon farmsteads. The old pylons and beans are a hundred years old and are a magnificent carpentry works.
The original paving of the yard (“floaster”), made of river rock flattened on the sides, was brought to light.
Everything can be admired from the two high, quiet balconies.

Even during the summertime the evenings and mornings can be quite cool, so we suggest you bring appropriate clothing.

    Short suggestions for daily trips:
Visit the Mesendorf church (6 km); access by car or by bike
Go over the hill from Mesendorf for an “off the beaten path” visit and check out the Viscri village and the old church. The view and the forest are wonderful.
Or  visit Viscri on a shorter trip, by car at 12 km, crossing picturesque landscapes.
Last, but not least, for a closer to home visit, check out the evangelical church in Crit, with its 500-year old fortifications.

The surrounding hills offer great escapades, with lovely views, hay fields, birds, wild animals (chamois, rabbits, foxes can often be seen).  Carriage roads cross the forests as in old times.
