The Dining Room and The Kitchen
The hosts are proud of the original ceiling of the dining room, with its polished beams and wooden panels. Here you will find coolness during the hot summers and, during cold winters, warmth given by the wood stove.
The old kitchen is ideal for preparing homemade meals.
The old wood stove and even the wood oven are still there.
The hosts mostly cook with organic vegetables from their own back yard or locally grown, from lands manured yearly on a un-intensive agriculture process. The milk, cheese, eggs and honey are locally produced as well.
You will also have the opportunity to enjoy the guesthouse’ very own berry marmalade and preserves, cooked at slow wood fire.
The Yard
The yard was built like a fortress and is surrounded by tiled roofs, which is typical for Saxon farmsteads. The old pylons and beans are a hundred years old and are a magnificent carpentry works.
The original paving of the yard (“floaster”), made of river rock flattened on the sides, was brought to light.
Everything can be admired from the two high, quiet balconies.
Even during the summertime the evenings and mornings can be quite cool, so we suggest you bring appropriate clothing.
Short suggestions for daily trips:
Visit the Mesendorf church (6 km); access by car or by bike
Go over the hill from Mesendorf for an “off the beaten path” visit and check out the Viscri village and the old church. The view and the forest are wonderful.
Or visit Viscri on a shorter trip, by car at 12 km, crossing picturesque landscapes.
Last, but not least, for a closer to home visit, check out the evangelical church in Crit, with its 500-year old fortifications.
The surrounding hills offer great escapades, with lovely views, hay fields, birds, wild animals (chamois, rabbits, foxes can often be seen). Carriage roads cross the forests as in old times.
