    Biking program
    For moderate bike riders
    (25-30 km/day)
     
    Daily program
     
    First day, arrival
    Pick-up from Bucharest, Cluj, Sibiu or Targu Mures. Long stop and tour of medieval town Brasov. Lunch in the central square. Arrival in the village of Viscri. Accomodation in a traditional guesthouse, dinner served in a Saxon courtyard.
     
    Second day, bike ride between the villages of Bunesti and Viscri
    Breakfast in a traditional courtyard. Visit to the fortified church (listed as one of the UNESCO world heritage monuments of Transylvania), visit the guesthouse owned by HRH Prince Charles. Ride to the sheepfold, picnic served by the shepherd (16 km). Ride back and visit the village’ blacksmith. Ride to the brick burning kiln (6-7 km), just outside of Viscri. Later, jam tasting in a traditional Saxon courtyard with the producer that inspired the international Slow Food movement in Romania. Dinner served in the forest, around a campfire. Accommodation in a Saxon guesthouse.

    The third day, bike ride between the villages of Viscri-Mesendorf-Criț
    Set off towards the village of Mesendorf in the morning, after breakfast (13-17 km, according to the fitness level of the group). Visit Mesendorf fortified church (one of the most stunning edifices of the area), followed by a visit to the organic buffalo farm just outside the village (the famous Transylvanian Buffalo mozzarella comes from the milk produced here). Ride to the village of Crit (6 km). Lunch at one of the most successful small producers in the area, with a short tour presenting some of her traditional products: the solar driers, herbs, teas, jams, syrups etc. “Meet the bees”: visit one of the beekeepers in Crit (protective bee suites are provided) and taste honey products. Short ride around the village (4 km). Dinner and accommodation in a beautifully restored Saxon guesthouse.

    The fourth day, ride between the villages of Criț-Cloasterf-Saschiz
    Set off towards the village of Saschiz in the morning, after breakfast. On route, a short visit to a traditional charcoal burning site in the forest. Picnic in a clearing in the forest. Ride towards Cloasterf and short visit in the village. Ride towards the village of Saschiz, visit the citadel. Accomodation and dinner in the village.

    The fifth day, ride between the villages of Saschiz-Daia and the mediaeval town of Sighișoara
    After breakfast, visit the fortified church in Saschiz (listed as one of the UNESCO world heritage monuments of Transylvania). Visit and a little souvenir shopping at the Tourist Information Centre in the village. Informative tour of Fundatia ADEPT Transilvania’s community development activities in the area. Ride to the medieval town of Sighișoara; on route, picnic in the forest. Tour of Sighisoara for the rest of the day. Accommodation and dinner in the UNESCO world heritage site citadel of Sighisoara.
    Total distance on bikes: 30 km.
     
    The sixth day, departure
    Breakfast in the citadel. Ride to the Breite Plateau, one of the most beautifully preserved wood pasture habitat in Central and Eastern Europe, with impressive multi-secular oak trees. Ride through the forest towards the village of Apold, visit the fortified church. Ride towards Saes, traditional lunch in the village. Ride back to Sighisoara. Departure for the airport (Bucharest, Cluj, Sibiu, Targu Mures). Optional: overnight in the departure city, leave the next day.

    Full sixth day progamme: Breakfast in the citadel. Ride to the Breite Plateau, one of the most beautifully preserved wood pasture habitat in Central and Eastern Europe, with impressive multi-secular oak trees. Ride through the forest towards the village of Apold, visit to the fortified church. Ride towards Saes, traditional lunch in the village. Ride towards Stejareni, visit the Bethlen castle in the village of Cris. Meeting a traditional barrel maker in the village Floresti. Ride to Malancrav, visit the fortified church (home of the most significant Gothic murals in Transylvania) and the stunning Apafi manor house. Product tasting: certified organic apple juice produced in the Apafi manor house orchard.
    Dinner and accomodation in Malancrav.
    Total distance on bikes: 30 km.
     
    Note:
    According to the fitness level of the biking group and on request, the riding distances can be raised with 15- 20 km/day.
